Jenelle DeMedio, AMFT
Who I Work With
I provide therapy for children and adolescents navigating challenges related to autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, OCD, life transitions, and trauma. I enjoy integrating play therapy, art therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to help children explore their inner world and express feelings using creativity and connection. I also draw from elements of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and psychoeducation to help clients build practical coping tools they can use in everyday life. In my work with children and families, I emphasize the importance of collaboration with parents and developing individualized treatment plans tailored to each child’s unique needs.
Beliefs and Interests
I take a strengths-based approach, honoring each person’s individuality and helping them use their natural strengths as a foundation for growth, healing, and self-discovery. My goal is to help each child build confidence, resilience, and self-advocacy skills as they navigate life’s challenges. I strive to create a warm, collaborative space where clients feel empowered and emotionally safe to share their stories and be their authentic selves. My background in figure skating has shaped my appreciation for the mind–body connection and the role creativity plays in emotional growth. I believe in a holistic approach that values self-expression, and I often use art and mindfulness as a tool for emotional regulation, reflection, and self-discovery. Above all, I believe every child has a voice and deserves to be heard – they are truly the most important work.

Background and Training
From a young age, I have always been fascinated by how the mind works and what drives human behavior. This curiosity led me to earn my B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience from Miami University, where I conducted research in clinical psychology and behavioral neuroscience. As a lifelong competitive figure skater and NCAA Division I student-athlete, I learned the importance of resilience, self-advocacy, and the mind–body connection – values that continue to influence my therapeutic work. After graduating, I went on to earn my M.A. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University.
My path in psychology has been shaped by a range of meaningful experiences in the field of mental health. From my time as a crisis counselor with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to my work as a Registered Behavior Technician supporting children with autism and other neurodevelopmental differences, I’ve developed a deep passion for helping children and adolescents thrive. Before joining Lumina, I worked in community mental health with children and teens who had experienced significant trauma, many involved in child welfare systems. Alongside my work at Lumina, I also serve with Project SAFE, a parenting support program that strengthens parent–child relationships and promotes emotional well-being. I am currently completing advanced training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and am excited to integrate these skills to better support children and families affected by trauma!
