Lizzie Kozarik, MA

Background and Training:
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Neuropsychology with a minor in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati. I am currently a Clinical Psychology Doctoral Intern pursuing my PsyD with a Child/Adolescent emphasis from Adler University in Chicago, Illinois where I previously received my MA in Clinical Psychology. While I have experience with populations across the lifespan, my clinical training has primarily focused on working with children, adolescents, and families with various behavioral and emotional concerns. My training has included experience in outpatient community mental health and private practice settings where I have provided individual, family, and group therapy, as well as psychological assessment services. My education and training experiences have equipped me with a variety of evidence-based practices that enable me to tailor treatment plans to each individual client.

Populations I Work With:
I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families navigating presentations including anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, ASD, emotional and behavioral challenges, trauma, and life stressors. I have a particular interest in trauma work with youth and families, which has been a primary focus of my clinical training. I strive to create a warm, supportive, empowering, and engaging environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves. I implement a holistic and collaborative approach, integrating cognitive-behavioral and trauma-informed practices to help clients develop coping strategies, build confidence, and navigate challenges effectively.

Beliefs and Interests:
I believe that effective therapy begins with building a strong, authentic, and human-centered therapeutic relationship where clients feel safe, respected, and understood. I believe therapy should build on the strengths clients already have while also considering the cultural, social, familial, and personal experiences that shape how they view themselves and the world around them. I value exploring the reasons behind specific behaviors and symptoms to address underlying issues and identify unmet needs. I am passionate about helping individuals better understand their emotions, develop healthy coping strategies, and recognize their own strengths. I also believe that involving and supporting caregivers is an important part of creating meaningful and lasting change.

Modalities Used:
Integrative approach including Adlerian Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Play Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Strengths-Based Approaches.
